Respite Care Program
The Respite Care Program is
for parents or primary caregivers of a person of any
age with an intellectual disability.
The Respite Coordinator maintains
a registry of qualified caregivers and matches
them with families requiring respite care. Short-term temporary care
can be arranged
for a few hours, a day, a weekend, or several consecutive days. Respite
may occur
in the family's home, in the caregiver's home, in a dedicated facility
such as the
Elmwood Respite Home, or may take the form of a community outing with a
companion.
Some funding may be available to
subsidize the cost of respite care. Call the
Ministry of Social Services at 933.6300 for more information.
Prior approval is required to access funds.
